Summer is over and most kids are already back in school. Our classical conversations group starts back in 1 week. This year I have decided to start time4learning and CC at the same time. Needless to say, it’s time for me to start planning our school year…
I have already purchased the things we need for classical minus a couple of books that aren’t required but will be very useful. I
will get those over the next few weeks. I need to print and laminate some flash cards and get the memory work CD uploaded to my phone.
With one year of classical behind us, I have found a few online resources that are very useful.
- One resource is the website: Half-a-Hundred Acre Wood. This blog is a great online resource for CC. This site contains tons of stuff to use throughout the year. I especially like the weekly resources.
- Another resource is CC connected. This is a subscription based resource, there is a monthly fee, but I think it is well worth it. It offers online tutorials, file sharing and more. Last year we used the student tutorials daily and I downloaded files to use at home weekly.
During the second semester last year I created my on weekly memory work worksheet. I use the sheet to write down each weeks memory work. I think writing it out helps me to remember it better. Click on the image below to download the worksheet.
With time4learning, it’s pretty easy to create an activity schedule so every Sunday evening I go over what needs to be done the following week. I create and print out a schedule for each day with the lessons and work sheets that need to be done. That way in the mornings Sarah can look at the schedule and know exactly what activities need to be done. I still need to sit with her most of the time and make sure she is staying on track but I am trying to get her to work more independently. Abby is starting kindergarten this year so I will have my hands full with home school!
Later I will post what our typical home school day looks like.
